Dr. John A. Hefferon’s practice is focused on the treatment of sports and active-lifestyle-related injuries and conditions. His expertise includes orthopedic sports medicine and total joint replacement of the knee and shoulder. Currently, he serves as the league physician for the NBA, WNBA and the NFL. Additionally, he has served as the team physician for the Chicago Bulls (1983–1996), the 1996 USA Olympic Men’s Basketball team, the USA Basketball U-19 World Championships in 2013 and 2015, and as Chief Physician for the NBA Combine since 1990. He is also the Chairman of the Same Day Surgicenter in Chicago, Illinois.

Himself a former minor league baseball player with the Oakland A’s, he understands the demands sports can play on the body. He is an avid runner, completing nine marathons, and enjoys exercising, skiing and traveling.

It brings him great pleasure to apply state-of-the-art, proven procedures to restore individuals to their active lifestyles. He joined Northwestern Center for Orthopedics in 1979, and it has been his mission to provide each patient with the same excellent service and care that he would offer a member of his own family.
